With Halloween right around the corner and the exciting emotions that arise from the little kid in us all from the thrill of trick or treating to the apprehension of the haunted house, it brings to mind what many of our clients convey to us when we begin discussing our professional design services.
One of the most common reasons I am called in to assist on interior design projects is fear. A client is nervous about how to arrange their space plan, apprehensive about actually making that furniture purchase, stalled out on the selection of paint colors, or simply overwhelmed by the process of pulling together their floor, tile and cabinetry decisions in an aesthetically pleasing way. They are simply overwhelmed by their hesitation to make the wrong choice. For the average individual, interior design work is not a daily or weekly or even monthly experience. It is more often than not an infrequent undertaking. But, it doesn’t need to be scary our goal is always to make it fun!
I was reminded of this on a recent project. I worked with a new client, a young mother with a very busy life and three young daughters. They live in a spectacular new home and she has excellent taste. However, like most of us, they are very short on time and nervous about making larger scale decisions. She did not have the hours she needed for decor research, shopping and exploring. And she did not have the time that would be needed to oversee the various trade groups that would be working in their home. In addition, the ideas she and her husband had in mind grew bigger by the day and began to extend into trade areas where they did not feel they had expertise or contacts. They were, in a nutshell, beginning to feel their projects were beyond them and fearful about their ability to see them through successfully.
I recall early conversations with my client and phrases such as, “it was becoming more than I could handle on my own” and “I needed professional help to make the bigger and more expensive decisions”. I knew she wanted and needed a sounding board and we were a good fit for one other. My goal was to minimize her stress and maximize her enjoyment of designing the interior of her home. Now, as we review the completed project and admire the results of the work we did to make her vision a reality, I hear phrases that are deeply satisfying. She has said that, “somehow it all got done and the process was exciting and smooth” and “when I walk down the stairs in the morning I feel like I am walking into my dream house Pinterest board!”
I am thrilled that they feel this way. My brand promise to transform homeowner’s visions into their dreams…..and only sweet dreams. No nightmares allowed! Here at our design firm, we ignite transformation with creative ideas! We calm hesitation and offer confidence as well as professional installations and superb customer service.
