The clients for this project were downsizing from their suburban family home where they raised their kids, to a townhome they could enjoy and be able to walk to the train, restaurants and shops in this Northwest Chicago Suburb now that their kids are all in college. The space was essentially a builder’s model and a blank slate. It was also a goal to stay in budget and within the homeowner’s move-in schedule both of which we were able to fulfill.
The design objective was to create a fresh, modern space to accommodate their new lifestyle. Having a warm and welcoming living space for entertaining guests was a top priority. To achieve our aesthetic goals, we had the hardwood floors refinished in a deep chocolate tone and upgraded the carpeting throughout the rest of the space with the assistance of Exceed Floor and Home of Crystal Lake, Illinois. Exceed also installed an updated backsplash in the kitchen to dress up the existing cabinetry and countertops. Please note before photos at the end of the gallery.
We updated the paint color palette throughout including warm grays and several shades of blue. All colors by Benjamin Moore including Boothbay Gray, Edgecomb Gray, Water’s Edge, Tranquility, Gray Owl, Palace Pearl, Van Courtland Blue and Desert Twilight. We selected new transitional furniture pieces for their main living space which included a family room, bar, kitchen and dining space. We created a space plan to maximize the footprint and then selected furniture pieces accordingly.
The sectional is by Crate and Barrel and leather swivel chairs are by Penny Mustard. The family room rug and accent pieces are via Wayfair.com. Dining Light fixture resourced from www.shadesoflight.com. Dining furniture by Canadel.
The end result here created satisfied clients who can enjoy both their new empty nest status as well as a beautiful new home!
